Today, the Senate passed a bill to establish the Federal University of Agriculture and Tropical Studies in Iragbiji, Osun State.
Sponsored by Senate Leader Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (APC – Ekiti Central), the bill aims to provide comprehensive management and administration guidelines for the new institution.
During the session, Senator Olarere Oyewunmi seconded Bamidele’s lead debate, and the proposal received vocal support from other senators, including Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and Senator Solomon Adeola. Senate President Godswill Akpabio called for a voice vote, leading to the bill’s approval for both first and second readings.
The bill has been referred to the Senate Committees on Agriculture, Tertiary Education, and TETFUND for further legislative work, with a report expected back in two weeks.
