The Lagos State General Hospital in Epe has officially been transferred to the Federal Government and will be upgraded to a tertiary health facility, now known as Federal Medical Centre, Epe.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) facilitating this transition was signed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Minister of State for Health, Dr. Tunji Alausa, during the inaugural Lagos Trauma Conference held at the Landmark Event Centre in Victoria Island.

Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted that the upgrade aims to enhance healthcare access for the growing population in the Epe Division and surrounding areas. The initiative includes establishing a School of Nursing to train future healthcare professionals, with the first cohort expected to enroll next year. Within the next two years, specialized services such as a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Open Heart Surgery Unit will be introduced.

Dr. Alausa noted that the establishment of the Federal Medical Centre would not only improve health outcomes but also stimulate local economies by creating job opportunities and attracting healthcare professionals to the area. This development aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on enhancing the quality of life for Nigerians.
