The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 33-year-old man, Olayemi Shedrack, who has been wanted for his alleged involvement in the robbery and rape of female students at Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun.

The arrest was made following a tip-off from members of the public, according to the state police public relations officer, Omolola Odutola.

Odutola stated that Shedrack was apprehended in Ijagun while attempting to blend into the crowd. She revealed that he had been on the police’s wanted list for his role in an armed robbery and sexual assault incident that occurred on July 21, 2024, at the female Royal Villa accommodation area of the university.

During the crime, Shedrack and his accomplices allegedly stole items, including laptops, iPhones, sports watches, and cash, before assaulting the female students.

The suspect has been taken to the Igbeba Police Station in Ijebu-Ode for interrogation, with plans to transfer him to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation and prosecution. Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun, has ordered the arrest of Shedrack’s accomplices and urged residents of Ijagun to provide credible information to help apprehend other suspects involved in the crime.
