Governor Inuwa Yahaya has responded to the ongoing strike at Gombe State University (GSU), which has disrupted academic activities and affected students across the state.

To address the situation, he has inaugurated a 14-member investigative team, led by Deputy Governor Manasseh Jatau, tasked with finding a resolution to the standoff involving ASUU, SSANU, NASU, and NAAT.

The unions’ grievances include demands for the implementation of the 2019 minimum wage, unpaid earned allowances from 2015 to 2024, and the N35,000 palliative wage to mitigate the effects of fuel subsidy removal. Despite several meetings with state officials, union representatives have expressed frustration over the lack of progress in meeting their demands.

Governor Yahaya acknowledged the challenges facing the university while urging the unions to consider the current economic landscape in their discussions. He also mentioned plans to introduce an Endowment Fund to support the institution’s development, though the timing remains uncertain due to the ongoing strike, leaving students in limbo regarding the resumption of academic activities.
