The European Union, in partnership with UNICEF, has initiated a training program for education stakeholders on school safety, psycho-social support, and climate literacy in Kano.

The four-year initiative, running from October 2023 to August 2027, also includes Jigawa and Sokoto, with Kano chosen as a key beneficiary.

Aisha Abdullahi, education facilitator of the Education and Youth Empowerment (EYE) project, highlighted that the training began with the preparation of master trainers, who will further train 800 teachers across schools in 10 local government areas in Kano. The aim is to enhance learning opportunities for children by equipping stakeholders to effectively manage conflict and disaster risks.

Kano’s education commissioner, Umar Doguwa, praised the efforts of UNICEF and the EU-EYE project, noting that the program addresses critical challenges like infrastructure deficits, teacher training, and gender disparities, ultimately enhancing access to quality education for children in underserved areas.
