Director General Uloaku Emma-Ukaegbu has announced during a press interaction in Umuahia, that the Abia State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS has trained 58 secondary schools on new strategies to combat the pandemic, emphasizing that trained teachers will relay the knowledge to others in their communities.

Emma-Ukaegbu highlighted the inclusive approach of the initiative, stressing that everyone has a role to play in eradicating HIV/AIDS before donor agencies exit the state. Key strategies include using supportive language to reduce fear among people living with HIV/AIDS and actively fighting stigmatization.

The director general expressed optimism about the ongoing efforts, noting a significant reduction in the HIV prevalence rate in Abia from 5.1% to 2.1%. She asserted that with continued dedication, HIV/AIDS could eventually become a historical issue in the state.
