The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has awarded a N70.5 million grant to six female engineers through the Developing Engineering Leaders Through Her (DELT-Her) project.

According to NASENI’s Director of Information, Olusegun Ayeoyenikan, the funding was part of the agency’s Delta-2 program, aimed at addressing gender imbalance in Nigeria’s engineering and technology sectors. The DELT-Her initiative, launched on March 8, focuses on empowering young women in these fields.

Khalil Halilu, Executive Vice-Chairman of NASENI, emphasized the importance of equipping women with the necessary resources to excel in traditionally male-dominated industries. He encouraged the awardees to view their achievements as inspiration for others, fostering a supportive environment for women in engineering.

Following a thorough evaluation of over 120 applications, Dr. Mohammed Dahiru, Chairman of the Presidential Implementation Committee on Technology Transfer (PICTT), announced the selection of six innovative projects for funding. The recipients will also receive technical support and connections for commercialisation, with some set to participate in the upcoming AFRI Lab Annual Gathering in Cape Town, South Africa.
