In an inspiring move, Dr. Sani Suleiman, a PhD holder from the Faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies at Katsina University, has enrolled in a 10-day skills acquisition training focused on leatherwork.

This initiative, aimed at tackling youth unemployment in Katsina State, is being held at the NYSC Orientation Camp Hall.

Organized by the Katsina State Development Fund in collaboration with Noor Management Consulting Services Limited, the training is part of a larger strategy to create job opportunities for young people in the region. Ahmed Karfi, the Executive Secretary of the Fund, highlighted the importance of acquiring practical skills to enhance economic prospects.

“The inclusion of a PhD holder in this training serves as a role model to inspire participants,” Karfi stated, emphasizing that education should be complemented by practical skill development.

Karfi also noted that the Fund is actively working on various programs to improve employment opportunities across multiple sectors. “We recently trained over 400 youths in digital marketing strategies and plan to expand our training to areas like water resources, healthcare, and education,” he explained.

He encouraged participants to remain hopeful and dedicated, underscoring the significance of gaining skills relevant to the job market.

The presence of a highly educated individual like Dr. Suleiman in the training program is a testament to the changing perceptions of skill acquisition among educated youth. By participating, Suleiman not only sets an example but also contributes to a growing movement focused on self-employment and economic empowerment in Katsina State.
