Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State welcomed Senate President Godswill Akpabio and a delegation of senators to Calabar during the 1987 alumni reunion of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) Law Faculty.

The meeting took place at the Dan Archibong Lodge, with Otu praising the alumni’s efforts in promoting the university and pledging continued state support for educational development.

Governor Otu emphasized the importance of the reunion, describing it as an inspiring gesture that reflects the potential of Cross River’s talents. He also urged other alumni groups to follow suit by supporting their institutions, reiterating the state’s commitment to advancing education.

Akpabio expressed gratitude for the warm reception and commended Otu’s leadership, especially his role in stabilizing politics in the South-South region. He noted that the visit would allow the alumni to assess UNICAL’s needs and explore areas for further intervention.
