The Yemisi Shyllon Museum of Art (YSMA) at Pan-Atlantic University is set to open a landmark exhibition titled Collecting Now: Perspectives on Contemporary Art Collecting in Nigeria on Saturday, October 26, 2024.

The exhibition offers a rare glimpse into the personal journeys of six influential Nigerian art collectors, highlighting their role in shaping the contemporary art landscape in Nigeria.

The exhibition features works from prominent collectors including Prince Yemisi Shyllon, Kola Aina, Gbenga & Aisha Oyebode, Dotun Sulaiman, Adeniyi Adenubi, and Eyamba Dafinone.

These collectors, recognized as essential contributors to the art ecosystem, have not only amassed significant collections but also supported artistic expression and cultural heritage preservation. Dr. Jess Castellote, Director of YSMA, emphasized that these collectors serve as “patrons and storytellers,” playing a crucial role in shaping and preserving Nigerian art for future generations.

Collecting Now presents over 80 curated works across various media, offering visitors an opportunity to explore the diverse tastes and curatorial visions of these collectors. The exhibition will run from October 26, 2024, to February 28, 2025, with a public opening reception at the museum on October 26 at 2 p.m.
