The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has urged President Bola Tinubu to remove the Vice Chancellors of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), and the University of Ibadan (UI) due to their alleged plans to increase tuition fees.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by NANS Senate President Afeez Akinteye, the student body condemned the proposed fee hikes, stating they would hinder the success of the newly introduced Student Loan Scheme.

NANS expressed concern that the planned tuition increments would discourage students from benefiting from the loan scheme, which was established to alleviate the financial burdens on students and their families.

The association accused the university leaders of pursuing policies that contradict President Tinubu’s commitment to affordable education.

The statement called for an investigation into the fee hike plans, labeling them as a direct threat to the future of Nigerian students. NANS also appealed to education stakeholders and parents to join in resisting the proposed increments, reaffirming its commitment to fighting for accessible and affordable education across the country.
