President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Morufu Olatunji Alausa, previously Minister of State for Health, as the new Minister of Education, following the dismissal of Prof. Tahir Mamman. Dr. Alausa, a nephrology specialist, graduated from the University of Lagos in 1993 and completed his residency at Cook County Hospital, Chicago.

In a cabinet reshuffle, Dr. Tanko Sununu, formerly Minister of State for Education, has been reassigned as Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction. Prof. Mamman’s removal comes amid controversy surrounding the introduction of an 18-year age limit for tertiary admissions, which sparked significant opposition. The status of the planned 2025 curriculum rollout remains uncertain under the new leadership.
