A coalition of Nigerian youth, student, and civil society organizations has demanded the immediate dismissal of Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, following recent incidents of alleged police brutality, including the arrest and reported mistreatment of Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN) Commandant Dickson Akoh and other officers.

At an emergency press conference in Abuja, coalition leaders criticized the IGP for allegedly ordering the armed raid on the Peace Corps headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, in connection with a tenancy dispute. According to reports, police officers—accompanied by civilians—forced entry, vandalized property, and detained Akoh and 16 personnel after breaking into the premises.

Representatives, including Blessing Akinlosotu and former National Youth Council President Murtala Mohammed, issued an ultimatum for the IGP to release the detained personnel by October 28, 2024, and to issue a formal apology. They warned that failure to meet these demands would lead to widespread peaceful protests at the National Assembly and police headquarters. The coalition also called for the immediate unsealing of the Peace Corps headquarters to resume normal operations.
