The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has reported that there has been no official communication from the government regarding their ongoing strike, which commenced on October 28, 2024.

This indefinite strike is a response to four months of withheld salaries, effectively halting university operations nationwide.

Abdussobur Salaam, the National Vice-President of SSANU, stated in an interview that while informal contacts were made between the Minister of State for Education and union executives, no substantive progress has been achieved.

He emphasized the unions’ frustration with the government’s failure to fulfill previous promises and meet their demands, which include improved remuneration, earned allowances, and the implementation of the 2009 agreements.

The unions had issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to address these issues, which expired on October 27, 2024, but no action has been taken. The unions reiterated their commitment to the strike, urging the authorities to act decisively.
