The Osun State University Teaching Hospital (UNIOSUNTH) has clarified recent reports of patients being discharged on Monday night, attributing the decision to the ongoing strike action by the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) and the Assembly of Health Care Professionals.

UNIOSUNTH Public Relations Officer, Wale Ajibolu, explained that hospital management held extensive discussions with union representatives on Monday in an attempt to delay the strike, emphasizing the unique responsibilities and critical nature of the hospital’s operations. Despite these efforts, union leaders maintained their decision to proceed with the strike.

Ajibolu noted that management met with union representatives until late, urging them to consider the hospital’s critical role, but the union refused.

A concerned relative of one of the patients voiced distress on social media, claiming the discharge order at 8 p.m. left numerous patients stranded, including pregnant women. The post urged Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to intervene, describing the sudden discharge as unfair and calling for immediate government action to assist affected patients.
