The Joint Action Committee of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) will meet with the Federal Government today at 11 a.m. to discuss the ongoing strike.

SSANU Vice-President Abdussobur Salaam confirmed to PUNCH Online that the union received an invitation from the government on Wednesday night, with the meeting set to be chaired by the Minister of State for Education in the Minister’s Conference Room.

The unions launched an indefinite strike on Monday over four months of unpaid salaries, effectively halting university operations nationwide. SSANU National President Mohammed Ibrahim stated that senior university officials, including Vice-Chancellors, bursars, and registrars, also face unpaid salaries, worsening the disruption in university activities.

The unions demand payment of the withheld salaries, improved remuneration, earned allowances, and the implementation of the 2009 agreements with the government. Ibrahim confirmed high compliance with the strike, reaching 98% among members, who remain firm in their decision to stay on strike until all salaries are paid.
