The Ogun State government sent a second delegation on Tuesday to the family of Monday Arijo, a student at Obada Grammar School, Idi-Emi, who died last Friday after corporal punishment by a teacher.

Led by Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, the team offered condolences while underscoring the government’s stance against corporal punishment in schools.

Meanwhile, the Federal Medical Centre in Abeokuta is conducting a post-mortem to determine Arijo’s cause of death. Prof. Arigbabu, addressing Ogun State educators, emphasized that disciplining students can be done without corporal punishment, urging adherence to international standards against such practices. He added that a committee has been set up to thoroughly investigate the incident, with the goal of reinforcing safe and effective discipline methods statewide.
