An indigenous group, Zamfara Concerned Citizens, has voiced serious criticism against Governor Dauda Lawal for allegedly neglecting over 100 Zamfara students who were sent on government scholarships to study in Cyprus.

According to the group, the students, initially sponsored by the Zamfara State government, now lack financial support and are struggling to meet their daily needs.

In a statement released Wednesday, spokesperson Abubakar Mansur described the situation as “heart-wrenching,” accusing Governor Lawal of cutting off funding that has left the students unable to pay tuition and forced into precarious living situations.

Mansur claimed many students have been dismissed from their universities, some resorting to sleeping in public spaces or taking menial jobs to survive.

Families of the affected students and concerned citizens are now urging the Zamfara government to reinstate the financial aid, emphasizing the need for these students to complete their education and return as skilled professionals. Governor Lawal’s office has not yet responded to the allegations.
