The Non-Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (NASU) announced it will suspend its indefinite strike starting Tuesday, 5 November, following payment commitments from the federal government.

This decision, jointly announced by NASU and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) under the Joint Action Committee (JAC), came after an update to branch chairpersons on Sunday.

The suspension follows a statement from the Accountant General of the Federation, Bawa Mokwa, confirming that payments to NASU members had begun, with many members already receiving salaries and benefits.

NASU leaders stated that recent meetings with key officials, including the new Ministers of Education and Finance, secured an “irrevocable commitment” to release withheld salaries in two installments—one already largely fulfilled by October and the next expected by the end of November.

SSANU President Mohammed Ibrahim and NASU General Secretary Peters Adeyemi expressed optimism, noting that discussions on additional outstanding issues, such as two months’ withheld salaries, N50 billion in Earned Allowances, and proposed Wage Awards, are ongoing. JAC leaders have directed branch leaders to hold a Congress on Monday, 4 November, to inform members of developments, with work resuming on Tuesday.
