Women in Technology in Nigeria (WITIN) has received the prestigious Inspiring Women in Science Outreach Award, presented by Nature and The Estée Lauder Companies, for its dedicated work in empowering girls across Nigeria through STEM education.

WITIN’s founder, Martha Alade, accepted the award in London, expressing pride in the organization’s mission to provide girls from underserved communities with access to knowledge, which she described as a fundamental human right.

The organization was recognized for tackling barriers that prevent girls’ participation in STEM, including health and safety concerns, while creating supportive environments for learning. Dr. Magdalena Skipper, Nature’s editor-in-chief, commended WITIN’s commitment to diversity in STEM, stating that “when women and girls are empowered to contribute, society benefits.”

WITIN’s impact over two decades was also highlighted by its advisory board chairman, Dr. Markie Idowu, who hailed the award as global validation of the organization’s mission to close the gender gap in STEM fields. This award reinforces WITIN’s drive to inspire the next generation of female leaders in technology and science.
