Around 1,200 staff members from the National Assembly and the National Assembly Service Commission, NASC, sat for their annual promotional exams in Abuja on Saturday.
The exam, covering all staff levels, is a regular event and unrelated to the recent retirements of senior officials.
Emmanuel Anyigor, NASC spokesperson, confirmed the exam’s routine nature, clarifying it was not connected to the ongoing retirements, including that of the Clerk to the National Assembly, Magaji Tambawal, who begins his pre-retirement leave ahead of his official retirement in February 2025.
This wave of retirements follows President Bola Tinubu’s refusal to assent to a bill extending the retirement age for parliamentary staff. Over 30 senior staff members, including the Clerk to the Senate, Chinedu Akabueze, are set to retire by the end of the year.
