The Enugu State Debate Team has been selected to represent Nigeria at the 2025 World Schools Debate Championship (WSDC) in Panama, following their exceptional performance at the 2024 Democracy Day National Debate Championship Finals in Abuja.

The recommendation was conveyed in a letter dated November 5, 2024, by the Chairman of the National Advisory Board for the President School Debate, Nigeria (PSDN), Usman Muhammad, to Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State.

Muhammad praised the team’s outstanding achievement, noting that their first-place finish at the national event earned them the nomination. “This is to congratulate you on the spectacular performance of the Enugu State Debate Team,” he wrote, highlighting WSDC as the premier global platform for top school debaters.

The winning team comprises Emmanuella Chukwuma (Holy Rosary College, Enugu), Chiamaka Okwuibe (Queen’s School, Enugu), Goodness Chinedu Chiemerie (St. Patrick’s College, Emene), and Chibuikem Ukadike (College of the Immaculate Conception, Enugu). The students credited their success to Governor Mbah’s significant investment in education, which they said revitalized debate participation after a decade-long absence from the championship.
