The 36 state governors, alongside the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, have pledged to support the ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution. During a meeting in Abuja, they discussed constitutional amendments and other national issues.
Kalu’s Committee on Constitution Review will engage with various groups, including the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), civil society organizations, and political parties to gather input for the amendment process.
Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, announced that the NGF also discussed the use of data and technology to enhance Nigeria’s education system with the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa. The governors expressed strong support for the constitutional review and committed to collaborating with the committee to align state priorities with the process.
