The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), has initiated the construction of a solar power farm to achieve energy sustainability on its campus. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Adenike Oladiji disclosed this during a media briefing, emphasizing the university’s goal to rely on green energy and reduce dependence on the national grid.

The project, upon completion, is expected to supply power to both the university and surrounding communities.

Prof. Oladiji also highlighted FUTA’s consistent academic excellence as it prepares to graduate 6,405 students during its combined 34th and 35th convocation ceremonies. Among the graduates, 519 achieved First Class honors, reaffirming the university’s dedication to academic excellence.

The ceremonies, scheduled from November 29 to 30, will also see the conferment of honorary doctoral degrees on notable individuals, including Prof. Daniel Olukoya of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries.

The Vice-Chancellor celebrated FUTA’s recent achievements, including maintaining its position as Nigeria’s best University of Technology and ranking 7th overall in the Times Higher Education 2025 rankings. She also announced that the convocation lecture would focus on “Technological Innovations: A Panacea to Food Insecurity,” to be delivered by Interior Minister Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. The events will conclude with the award of postgraduate degrees and recognition of distinguished alumni.
