Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, will award honorary doctorate degrees to distinguished individuals during its 48th convocation ceremony.
Among the honorees are Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and MTN Nigeria CEO, Prince Karl Toriola. Additionally, three other notable Nigerians, including Dr. Akinade Ogunbiyi, Group Chairman of Mutual Benefit Plc, and Prof. Anthony Adegbulugbe, will also receive honorary degrees.
At a press briefing on Thursday, Vice-Chancellor Professor Simeon Bamire highlighted Senator Tinubu’s advocacy for women, children, and youth development through her foundations, including the Yeye Asiwaju Foundation and the New Era Foundation. Tinubu has also made significant donations to education, including N1 billion to schools and N50 million to the Faculty of Education.
The convocation will see 6,015 graduates receive classified degrees, including 215 First Class, 2,197 Second Class Upper, and 2,691 Second Class Lower Division graduates. In total, 958 postgraduate degrees will also be awarded.
