Oando Foundation, in collaboration with Sumitomo Chemical, Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board, and GreenHubAfrica, has marked a significant milestone in environmental education through its Clean Our World (COW) initiative. The project has reached over 69,500 beneficiaries across 70 public primary schools in Lagos and Plateau States.

The initiative, aimed at promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices, addresses Nigeria’s mounting waste crisis. With the country generating an estimated 32 million tonnes of solid waste annually—2.5 million tonnes of which are plastic—the Clean Our World project advocates for environmental education in public schools and surrounding communities.

This effort aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4.7, which emphasizes equipping learners with skills to promote sustainable development, sustainable lifestyles, and climate action.

Speaking at the project’s closing ceremony in Lagos, Tonia Uduimoh, Programmes Manager for Oando Foundation, expressed pride in the initiative’s impact. “We are proud to have completed this phase of the Clean Our World project in Lagos and Plateau, reflecting our unwavering commitment to empowering young Nigerians with the knowledge and tools to champion environmental sustainability,” she said.

The Clean Our World project not only raises awareness but also engages stakeholders to standardize environmental education in public primary schools, fostering a culture of sustainability among the next generation.
