Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has called on private school owners and the general public to support the children of fallen officers by offering scholarships as a way to ease the burden on their families. Speaking at the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration at the Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu Square in New Owerri, the Governor emphasized the importance of honoring those who sacrificed their lives for the nation’s peace and security.

In his address, Governor Uzodinma highlighted that the sacrifice made by the fallen officers is the ultimate form of patriotism, noting that their courage should never be forgotten. “Patriotism is the love of one’s country, and these Nigerians we are remembering today loved Nigeria unto death,” he remarked. The Governor urged Nigerians to express their gratitude through tangible actions, including supporting the families of these fallen heroes in various ways, such as financial aid, emotional support, and words of comfort.

The Governor also reiterated the state’s commitment to assisting the families of both the fallen officers and current personnel, acknowledging their role in combating insecurity in the state. He expressed deep regret over the deaths of security personnel in the line of duty and reassured the public that his administration would continue to honor their memory. Uzodinma also appealed to citizens to contribute to the fight against insecurity by providing helpful information to security agencies.

In a show of respect, Governor Uzodinma laid a wreath as the Special Guest of Honor and participated in the symbolic release of pigeons, signifying peace for the nation. He extended gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support for the Nigerian Armed Forces and acknowledged the federal government’s efforts in ensuring national security. The Governor’s remarks underscored the collective responsibility to support the families of fallen officers and maintain peace in the country.
