The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, has announced a significant reduction in the cost of kidney dialysis, slashing the price from N40,000 to N12,000 per session. The initiative is aimed at alleviating the financial burden faced by kidney patients and improving access to life-saving treatments.

Over 45 beneficiaries have already taken advantage of the subsidized service, expressing deep gratitude for the relief provided. Speaking on the development, the Chief Medical Director of ATBUTH, Prof. Yusuf Jibrin, highlighted the transformative impact the programme is expected to have on patients. He commended the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare for its support in ensuring an adequate supply of consumables and the provision of a new dialysis machine to bolster the hospital’s efforts.

“This initiative showcases the government’s commitment to making quality healthcare accessible to all, especially during these trying times,” Prof. Jibrin remarked. He emphasized that the programme reflects ATBUTH’s dedication to providing affordable, high-quality healthcare services while fostering public trust in the healthcare system.

Prof. Jibrin assured that the hospital will continue collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to sustain and expand similar initiatives, aiming to enhance the well-being of citizens and bridge gaps in healthcare accessibility.
