Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, has announced the introduction of 20 new academic programmes to align with global trends and equip students with skills for the evolving job market. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ayodeji Agboola, made this disclosure on Thursday during a press conference ahead of the university’s 34th convocation ceremony. The new courses include Cyber Security, Forensic Science, Data Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Estate Management, Building Technology, and Software Engineering, among others.

Highlighting the institution’s academic milestones, Prof. Agboola revealed that a total of 6,209 undergraduates will graduate during the convocation ceremony. This figure comprises 5,793 regular students and 416 part-time students. In addition, 741 postgraduate students will be conferred with higher degrees, including 571 Postgraduate Diploma/Master’s graduates and 170 PhD holders. Among the undergraduate cohort, 115 students earned first-class honours, with Dauda Anuoluwapo from the Economics Department emerging as the overall best graduate with a CGPA of 4.87.

The Vice-Chancellor provided a detailed breakdown of the graduates’ performance, noting that 1,845 students achieved Second Class Upper Division, 3,044 attained Second Class Lower Division, 688 earned Third Class, 35 received a Pass grade, while 66 medical students graduated from unclassified programmes. He emphasized the university’s commitment to academic excellence and its role in preparing graduates for future challenges.

As part of the convocation activities, a lecture themed “TETFund and Educational Development in Nigeria: The History, the Treasures and the Future” will be delivered by the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Sonny Echono. The convocation ceremony promises to be a celebration of academic achievements and the university’s dedication to fostering innovation and global competitiveness.
