The Senate of the University of Ilorin has approved the appointment of three distinguished retirees as emeritus professors, recognizing their exceptional contributions to academia and the institution. The appointees are Prof. Is’haq Oloyede, Prof. Olu Obafemi, and Prof. Musbau Akanji.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the university’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, confirmed that the appointments were ratified during the Senate’s 304th meeting. He highlighted that the university’s highest decision-making body acknowledged the academic excellence and service records of the three professors.

Prof. Is’haq Oloyede, who retired in October 2024, is a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin and currently serves as the Registrar and Chief Executive of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Prof. Olu Obafemi, a renowned scholar in English and Dramatic Literature, retired in 2020, while Prof. Musbau Akanji, a biochemist and former Vice-Chancellor of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, and the Federal University of Technology, Minna, retired in 2021.

The appointments underscore the University of Ilorin’s commitment to honoring academic excellence and fostering intellectual growth. By conferring emeritus status on these scholars, the university reaffirms their enduring impact on education and scholarship both within and beyond the institution.
