The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), in partnership with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), recently convened a stakeholders meeting aimed at revitalizing agricultural practices in public primary schools across Lagos State through the Agricultural Education Training Programme (AETP).

Held at LASUBEB’s Multi-Purpose Hall, the engagement brought together Headteachers, Teachers, Agricultural Desk Officers, and School-Based Mobilisation Committees from 80 participating schools. The meeting focused on aligning stakeholders with the programme’s objectives and ensuring proper utilization of funds disbursed by UBEC for agricultural education.

The AETP is designed to equip schools with resources to establish functional school farms, procure agricultural tools, and integrate practical farming activities into the curriculum. LASUBEB Chairman, Dr. Hakeem Shittu, represented by the Board Secretary, Mr. Hakeem Lamidi, stressed the importance of accountability in utilizing the allocated funds. “This initiative empowers pupils with life skills, enhances food security, and contributes to sustainable development in Lagos State,” he said.

UBEC representative Mr. Joshua Arema commended LASUBEB’s commitment to transparency and urged stakeholders to actively involve pupils in the programme. He emphasized its potential to instill agricultural entrepreneurship skills in students. The stakeholders also discussed strategies for effective implementation, resource management, and monitoring to ensure the programme’s sustainability and long-term impact.
