The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has expressed support for the institution’s Governing Council’s decision to set up an investigative panel to examine allegations of sexual harassment against the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina. The allegations were brought forward by Engineer Folashade Adebayo, a Deputy Director of Works and Services at the university.

The university’s Governing Council established a nine-member committee to investigate the claims, which surfaced through audio recordings suggesting that Professor Fasina made inappropriate advances toward Folashade. The panel has been given three weeks to conduct a thorough investigation, with its findings set to be reviewed in February 2025 during the Council’s next meeting.

In a statement obtained by DAILY POST on Wednesday, the SUG President, Abiodun Olorunshola Mary, described the committee’s formation as a “bold step” that reflects the institution’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and justice. The Union emphasized that FUOYE’s decision to investigate the allegations aligns with the university’s core values of fairness and integrity.

Additionally, the SUG reaffirmed its full support for an unbiased investigation, aligning with the stance of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), which also hailed the committee’s formation. The Union expressed confidence in the panel led by Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, trusting that it would conduct a fair and equitable hearing while carefully reviewing all allegations.
