The Senate of the University of Abuja (UniAbuja) has approved a revised academic calendar for the 2024/2025 session, ensuring a structured timeline for academic activities. This decision was made during the 187th Regular Meeting of the Senate, which had 192 members in attendance, both physically and virtually. The approval was announced in a statement by the Acting Director of Information and University Relations, Dr. Habib Yakoob, on Wednesday in Abuja.
Among the key resolutions passed, the Senate scheduled the university’s next convocation ceremony and conducted the election of a new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic). Following the election, Prof. Abubakar Abba from the Department of Political Science emerged as the newly appointed DVC (Academic). Additionally, the Senate expressed confidence in the University’s Governing Council, led by Air Vice Marshal Saddiq Kaita (Rtd), commending it for its fair and transparent Vice-Chancellor selection process.
In its statement, the Senate congratulated the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Aisha Maikudi, and pledged its full support towards advancing the institution’s vision and mission under her leadership. It also strongly condemned the actions of individuals attempting to tarnish the university’s reputation through falsehoods and blackmail in the media, urging the management to take disciplinary action against those involved in misconduct.
The Senate reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence, integrity, and institutional growth, emphasizing that any efforts to undermine the university’s reputation would not be tolerated. The management was encouraged to uphold the values of transparency, discipline, and accountability in all university affairs.
