Abuja, Nigeria – The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic fire incident that claimed 17 lives at an Islamic school in Kaura-Namoda, Zamfara State.

In a statement personally signed by her on Thursday, Mrs. Tinubu extended her condolences to the Governor of Zamfara State, Dr. Dauda Lawal, and the entire people of the state.

“I commiserate with the Governor of Zamfara State, Dr. Dauda Lawal, and the people of Zamfara State on the tragic incident of the fire that gutted the Islamic school where 17 lives were lost,” she said.

The First Lady also prayed for strength for the grieving families and urged the implementation of precautionary safety measures in all public schools to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

“This once again brings to mind the need for precautionary safety measures in all our public facilities. I pray that such will not reoccur, not only in Zamfara State but all over Nigeria,” she stated.

Mrs. Tinubu concluded her message with prayers for the departed souls, asking Allah to grant them Aljanah Firdaus (Paradise).

The tragic incident, which occurred on Tuesday night, saw a raging fire engulf a study hall in Mallam Ghali Tsangaya School, burning for over four hours. Several other students sustained injuries, sparking renewed concerns over school safety standards across the country.

The government and stakeholders are now being urged to prioritize fire safety measures in schools, especially Almajiri and Tsangaya institutions, to prevent future occurrences.
