The Federal Government of Nigeria, on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, officially handed over the newly established Federal University of Applied Sciences (FUAS) in Kachia, Kaduna State. The handover ceremony was presided over by Vice President Kashim Shettima, marking the fulfillment of President Bola Tinubu’s promise to establish a federal university in Southern Kaduna.

Stanley Nkwocha, Special Adviser to the Vice President on Media and Communication, announced the event in a post on X, emphasizing the university’s role in expanding educational opportunities and fostering economic growth in the region. The new institution aims to provide specialized training in applied sciences, equipping students with practical skills to drive technological and industrial development in Nigeria.

The ceremony witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, Senator Sunday Marshall Katung (representing Kaduna South), Daniel Amos (Member representing Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency), and Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa. Others in attendance were Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman, Ola Olukayode, and Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, among other key stakeholders.

The establishment of FUAS in Kachia aligns with the Tinubu administration’s agenda to expand access to higher education and promote specialized learning institutions across Nigeria. The university is expected to serve as a hub for innovation, research, and skill-based education, contributing to the technological advancement and economic transformation of Kaduna State and beyond.
