The management of the Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA) in Katsina State has declared a one-week mid-semester break, effective from February 24. This decision follows a protest by students in response to the alleged shooting and death of a fellow student by the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF).

The protest began on Sunday after reports emerged that a student had been shot by JTF members, who alleged that the deceased was an informant. The demonstration escalated into Monday morning, with students expressing their outrage over the incident.

In a statement released on Monday in Katsina, the Vice Chancellor of FUDMA, Prof. Armaya’u Bichi, announced the Senate’s decision to temporarily close the university.

“The management wishes the students a happy and peaceful mid-semester break,” Prof. Bichi stated, advising all students to vacate the campus by 6:00 p.m. on February 24.
