Primary School Recruitment in Final Stages

Akure, March 4, 2025 — Ondo State Governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved the employment of 1,000 secondary school teachers across the state, marking a significant step in addressing the shortage of educators in public schools.

The governor’s approval follows the completion of the recruitment process conducted by the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM). In a statement released on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Ebenezer Adeniyan, successful candidates will begin their documentation process immediately.

“The governor gave approval for the recruitment of 1,010 secondary school and 1,000 primary school teachers last year, which signaled the start of the recruitment exercise by TESCOM and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB). While the final list for secondary school candidates was approved by the governor on Friday, that of the primary school candidates is currently undergoing finishing touches,” the statement read.

Governor Aiyedatiwa has emphasized the urgent need for more teachers, particularly in rural communities, where schools have been grappling with staff shortages. His directive ensures that recruitment is based on the specific needs of understaffed schools across the state.

As part of broader efforts to enhance education, the governor recently approved N633 million for the registration of students taking the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). In another major educational reform, he also sanctioned the upgrade and conversion of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, into the University of Agriculture and Agribusiness, Owo.

The recruitment initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to improving education quality and ensuring access to competent teaching personnel in public schools.
