The Federal Government has officially received the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) for 170 hectares of land designated for the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, Kaduna State.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu described the establishment of the institution as a tribute to the legacies of Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Dr. Tai Solarin for their contributions to education in Nigeria.

“This initiative honors Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who pioneered the revolutionary free education program in Western Nigeria, and Dr. Tai Solarin, who dedicated his life to educating children and instilling patriotism and leadership values at Mayflower School in Ikenne,” President Tinubu stated.

The President also acknowledged the intervention of the Awujale of Ijebuland, crediting him with playing a crucial role in preventing the closure of the Tai Solarin University of Education in 2012, just seven years after its establishment.

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, played a pivotal role in ensuring the swift acquisition of the land, facilitating the timely issuance of the Certificate of Occupancy, and transferring ownership to the Federal Government. His proactive efforts have been praised as a demonstration of his dedication to advancing education in Southern Kaduna.

The official presentation of the land documents took place during a meeting hosted by the Minister of Education, who welcomed Governor Uba Sani and Senator Sunday Katung to his office.

“In our ongoing efforts to expand STEMM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine), I was honored to welcome His Excellency, Senator Uba Sani, and Senator Sunday Katung for the presentation of the Certificate of Occupancy for approximately 170 hectares of land designated for the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia,” the Minister stated.

The development marks a significant step in strengthening educational infrastructure in Kaduna State and reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to improving access to quality education, particularly in science and technology-related fields.
