The Senate of the Nigerian Army University in Biu, Borno State, has elected Professor Ahmad Imam as the acting vice chancellor of the institution, pending the appointment of a substantive vice chancellor.

Professor Imam was elected during the second Special Senate meeting held on March 6, following the expiration of the tenure of the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Kyari Mohammed.

Prior to his election, Professor Imam served as the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) and was a lecturer in the Department of Accounting, Faculty of Arts and Management Sciences. Before assuming the role of Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) two years ago, he distinguished himself as the Director of Research, earning a reputation as a respected scholar.

In his address following the election, Professor Imam expressed gratitude to the Senate for the trust placed in him to lead the university in an acting capacity. He pledged to prioritize staff welfare and address all outstanding issues and concerns within the university community.

Additionally, the acting vice chancellor offered prayers for the safe return of Professor Abubakar El-Jummah, a staff member who was kidnapped on the Biu-Damboa road and remains in captivity. He urged staff to avoid dangerous routes within and outside the state, emphasizing his commitment to enhancing security and sustaining the measures implemented by the outgoing vice chancellor.

Professor Imam also highlighted his readiness to collaborate with the newly constituted Governing Council to ensure the smooth operation of the university and to develop policies that will elevate the institution to greater heights.

In his remarks, the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Kyari Mohammed, expressed his appreciation to the Senate and the entire university community for their support during his tenure. He encouraged them to extend the same level of support to the newly elected acting vice chancellor.
