Ikot Osurua, Akwa Ibom — The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, Baba Azare, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into allegations of police brutality and extortion raised by students of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua.

The directive follows a student protest on Monday that disrupted academic activities on campus. The demonstration, which highlighted concerns over alleged misconduct by some police officers, prompted swift action from the police command.

In response, the police engaged in discussions with the school’s management, the Students’ Union Government (SUG), and other key representatives to address the students’ grievances and improve police-student relations.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, assured that the command remains committed to upholding human rights and ensuring student safety.

“Any officer found guilty of misconduct will face appropriate disciplinary action,” DSP John stated.

She further emphasized that security measures were being strengthened through intelligence-led operations to maintain peace and protect residents in the host community.

Commissioner Azare called for continuous collaboration between students and law enforcement, stressing that dialogue and cooperation are essential to fostering peace and security in the area.
