Abuja, Nigeria — March 18, 2025

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Bishop Matthew Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, Kaduna State. This was announced in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s spokesman, on Monday.

In addition to Bishop Kukah’s appointment, President Tinubu also named Qurix Barnabas as Vice Chancellor, Sanusi Gambo Adamu as Registrar, Ibrahim Dalhat as Bursar, and Daniel Abubakar as University Librarian.

Further strengthening the university’s leadership, the President approved the appointment of Thomas Etuh (North Central), Fabian Nwaora (South East), Femi Taiwo (South West), and Zarah Bukar (North East) as members of the institution’s Governing Council.

“All the appointees were carefully selected based on their careers, leadership experience, and dedication to advancing education in Nigeria,” the statement read.

President Tinubu urged the newly appointed officers to provide visionary leadership and ensure the university becomes a center of academic excellence and research. He emphasized that their roles align with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes educational development.

The Federal University of Applied Sciences, formerly known as Nok University, was recently renamed after the federal government took over its assets. The institution is set to admit its first batch of students in September 2025.
