The Ogun State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to revitalizing technical and vocational education through a series of capacity-building initiatives and infrastructural upgrades across its technical colleges.
Speaking at the opening of a three-day capacity building training for staff of the Ogun State Technical and Vocational Education Board (OGSTVEB), as well as principals and management of the state’s eight technical colleges, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, disclosed that the first phase of an ongoing project has commenced with the production of 10,000 tables and chairs, fully executed by local artisans.
The training, held at the OPIC Tower in Abeokuta, aims to enhance the professionalism and service delivery of technical college staff and management.
“This initiative demonstrates our dedication to empowering local talent while upgrading the learning environment in our technical colleges. Now that we have remodeled our technical colleges, let us show it through our output, training quality, and an assiduous attitude to work,” Prof. Arigbabu said.
He further stated that additional equipment would be supplied to the colleges once ongoing construction projects were completed, urging participants to make the most of the resources provided by the present administration to sustain excellence in education.
In his remarks, the Acting Executive Secretary of OGSTVEB, Mr. Olubori Akinleye, explained that the training was organized under the Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.
According to Akinleye, the programme was designed to update principals and school managers on the ongoing reforms within the technical education sector, and to equip them with modern skills necessary to maintain and build upon the administration’s recent innovations.
“Our focus is on sustainable growth. This training is essential for ensuring that the massive investments the government has made in technical education yield long-term benefits for the state and its young people,” Akinleye said.
The Ogun State Government’s multi-pronged approach — combining infrastructure development, local empowerment, capacity building, and sector reforms — reflects a broader vision to position the state as a leader in technical and vocational education in Nigeria.
Stakeholders and participants expressed optimism that the reforms would translate into a more skilled workforce, thereby boosting the state’s economic development prospects.
