The University of Benin Alumni Association (UBAA) has commended the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) for its ongoing disbursement of interest-free loans to students, describing the initiative as a significant step toward reducing financial barriers in higher education.
In a communiqué issued at the conclusion of its 101st National Council Meeting held in Ondo State, the association also called on NELFUND to expand and consolidate its operations across universities nationwide to ensure more students benefit from the scheme.
“We are impressed with the bold steps NELFUND is taking to support students through interest-free loans,” the statement read. “However, we urge the agency to deepen its outreach and operational presence across Nigeria’s higher institutions so that no deserving student is left behind.”
The alumni association also used the opportunity to commend the administration of the newly appointed Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Edoba Bright Omoregie, SAN. The council expressed satisfaction with the peace, stability, and developmental progress witnessed under his leadership.
“We acknowledge and appreciate the atmosphere of tranquility, academic focus, and infrastructure development at our alma mater under the current management,” the communiqué added.
The meeting drew participation from members of the alumni body nationwide, reinforcing UBAA’s commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance access to education and foster institutional growth.
