Uyo, Nigeria – May 12, 2025 — The eldest sister of the late Iniubong Umoren, a 26-year-old Philosophy graduate of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO), has publicly dismissed recent claims suggesting that her sister was a victim of organ harvesting.

Speaking at a press conference held in Uyo, Ifiok Ephraim Umoren described the rumors as “outrageous” and “deeply hurtful,” urging the public to refrain from spreading misinformation about the tragic death of her sister.

Iniubong Umoren was murdered on April 29, 2021, after falling victim to a fake job interview scheme that lured her into a trap. The case drew national outrage and widespread calls for justice.

“I was present during the autopsy,” Ifiok stated firmly. “I saw my sister’s body. All her internal organs were intact. These stories of organ harvesting are entirely false and extremely painful for our grieving family.”

The murder case led to the conviction of Uduak Akpan, who was sentenced to death by hanging in 2022 for the rape and murder of Iniubong. However, renewed speculations have resurfaced on social media in recent weeks, prompting the family to address the matter directly.

Calling for respect and sensitivity, Ifiok urged members of the public and media to honor Iniubong’s memory by focusing on the truth and the pursuit of justice, rather than sensationalized and unfounded claims.

“We are still healing,” she said. “All we ask is for our sister to rest in peace, and for her story to remain rooted in facts, not fabrications.”
