The management of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has ordered the immediate closure of the Al-Ansar Indabo female students’ hostels located at Hotoro and UDB Road in Kano metropolis, citing safety and disciplinary violations. The directive was announced in a statement issued on Monday by Dr. Hamza Garba, Vice President, Campus Life.

According to the statement, the university has also withdrawn its approval for the use of the hostels following multiple breaches of its code of conduct. The management said the decision was taken in line with MAAUN’s commitment to providing secure and morally responsible accommodation for its students. It emphasized that the hostels had failed to meet the institution’s standards for private student housing.

Dr. Garba listed several infractions including reported cases of immoral behavior, poor water and electricity supply, unauthorized movement at night, student violence, and the sharing of facilities with unidentified individuals. “These issues pose a serious threat to the well-being of our students,” he said, adding that all affected students must vacate the premises immediately after their ongoing semester examinations.

The university has urged parents and students to contact the Office of the Vice President, Campus Life, for guidance on approved hostel alternatives via the official email address — vp-campuslife@maaun.edu.ng. MAAUN warned that it will not be held responsible for any consequences resulting from non-compliance and affirmed that it is working with security agencies to enforce the directive.
