Kano, Nigeria – May 16, 2025 — The Federal Government has approved the sum of N80 billion for the upgrade of infrastructure in 100 Federal Government Colleges, popularly known as Unity Schools, across the country.

This was disclosed by the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, on Friday during an unscheduled inspection of facilities at the Federal Government College (FGC), Kano.

Prof. Ahmad said the inspection was part of a nationwide effort to evaluate the state of infrastructure, assess leadership effectiveness, and examine student welfare in Unity Schools. According to her, the visit was also aimed at fostering improved teaching and learning environments while ensuring effective service delivery.

“The Federal Government is committed to ensuring quality education and building teachers’ capacity to achieve set objectives,” she stated.

She emphasized the importance of direct interaction between policymakers and school management, noting that such engagements will help address pressing challenges and guide the provision of essential educational facilities.

Prof. Ahmad assured that the N80 billion allocation would be strategically deployed to revamp learning infrastructure, enhance teacher support systems, and provide a conducive environment for students across the nation’s Unity Schools.

Unity Schools were established to promote national integration and offer high-standard education, but many have faced infrastructural decline in recent years. The government’s renewed investment is seen as a significant step toward revitalizing these institutions and reinforcing their founding vision.
