In a landmark achievement that positions it at the forefront of global academic relevance, Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has been officially accredited by the British Council as a Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre for its international examinations, including the globally recognised International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
This accreditation makes UNIOSUN the first British Council-approved examination centre in Osun State, a milestone hailed as a “defining moment” in the institution’s quest for internationalisation and academic excellence.
According to a statement released on Thursday by Mr. Ademola Adesoji, the university’s Public Relations Officer, the inaugural British Council examination is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at the university’s ultra-modern CBT centre located on its main campus in Osogbo.
Speaking on the development, Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye, Vice-Chancellor of UNIOSUN, described the British Council’s endorsement as a major leap forward for both the university and the entire Osun State.
“This is a defining moment for Osun State University,” said Professor Adebooye.
“Becoming the first British Council examination centre in Osun State is a major stride in our mission to internationalise our academic offerings and provide direct access to global opportunities for our students, staff, and the wider community.”
He added that the accreditation is a reflection of the university’s institutional credibility, world-class infrastructure, and qualified personnel.
UNIOSUN’s CBT centre boasts advanced facilities that meet international testing standards, including:
- High-speed internet connectivity
- Biometric verification systems
- 24-hour uninterrupted power supply

“Now, they can conveniently take these tests in Osogbo—saving time, money, and energy.
The IELTS is one of the world’s most trusted English language proficiency tests, used by universities, employers, immigration authorities, and professional bodies across over 140 countries.
By hosting such global assessments, UNIOSUN is not only creating access to international education and career opportunities but also enhancing its reputation as a future-focused institution.
As the countdown begins to the August 2 inaugural exam, excitement is building among prospective candidates who now have a trusted, local venue to pursue their global ambitions.
With this historic move, Osun State University has not only raised the bar in educational excellence—it has opened the door to the world.
