As part of the week-long celebration marking its 50th anniversary, the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) is set to honour 65 distinguished Nigerians — comprising notable alumni and key contributors to national development — at a grand Investiture Ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, July 16, 2025.
The event, themed “Investiture Ceremony of Unilorin Ambassadors, Distinguished Alumni, and Award of Excellence”, will hold at the University Auditorium by 11:00 a.m., and will feature dignitaries from academia, government, the private sector, and civil society.
In a statement released by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, the Chairman of the Awards Planning Committee, Prof. AbdulRasheed A. Adeoye, described the ceremony as a celebration of excellence, integrity, and contributions that have brought pride and progress to the institution.
“The ceremony will celebrate alumni and individuals who have excelled in their various fields, enhanced the image and reputation of our university, and contributed meaningfully to its growth and development,” Prof. Adeoye said.
Breakdown of Honours:
- Award of Excellence – 2 recipients (including one alumnus and one non-alumnus)
- Distinguished Alumni – 10 honourees
- Unilorin Ambassadors – 50 individuals
- Group Recognition – 3 graduating sets
The investiture highlights UNILORIN’s continued emphasis on honouring merit, celebrating achievements, and reinforcing its legacy as one of Nigeria’s leading institutions of higher learning.
Prominent Honourees Include:
- Prof. Emeritus Is’haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, CON – 8th Vice Chancellor of UNILORIN and current Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB)
- Dr. Tunji Olowolafe – Renowned medical doctor and entrepreneur
- Prof. Temidayo Oladiji – Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA)
- Mr. Babatunde Omotowa – Former MD, Nigeria LNG Ltd.
- Dr. Sarah Omotunde Alade – Former Deputy Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria
- Mrs. Kemi Nanna Nandap – Comptroller-General, Nigeria Immigration Service
- Mr. Eniola Bello – Managing Director, THISDAY Newspapers
- Prof. Abdulrasheed Na’Allah – Immediate Past VC, University of Abuja
- Justice Asmau Tanwa Akanbi – Prominent jurist
Also on the honours list are top academics, technocrats, public servants, and alumni who have distinguished themselves in governance, law, medicine, engineering, journalism, and national service.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, will serve as the chief host, while renowned legal scholar and Professor of Practice, Mallam Olaolu Ali, SAN, is billed to deliver the keynote address.
This milestone event is expected to be a defining moment of pride and reflection for the UNILORIN community as it celebrates five decades of academic excellence, integrity, and national impact.
