The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially dismissed reports alleging the cancellation of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates, describing them as false, misleading, and malicious.

The Council’s Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, in a statement issued on Monday, said the claims, which surfaced online on Saturday, July 19, are the work of mischief-makers seeking to undermine the integrity of the examination body.

“The examination has not been cancelled, and the marking of scripts has already been completed,” Adesina clarified.

She assured candidates, schools, and stakeholders that WAEC remains on track to release the WASSCE 2025 results on or before Thursday, August 4, as originally planned.

The fake news had alleged that WAEC and the Federal Ministry of Education had jointly invalidated the examination due to reported cases of widespread malpractice, question leaks, and unauthorised material circulation—claims WAEC categorically denied.

“There is no directive from any authority invalidating the exam. We urge the general public to disregard the said publication and rely only on official WAEC communications,” Adesina said.

She reiterated WAEC’s unwavering commitment to transparency, due process, and the credibility of its examination system, and called on media outlets and social media users to verify information before dissemination.

WAEC also encouraged candidates to stay calm and continue to monitor official WAEC platforms for updates on the result release.
