Two public schools in Bayelsa State — Community Secondary School, Sangana, and Community Secondary School, Twon-Brass — have received 9,000-litre water borehole facilities from the Bayelsa Education Development Trust Fund (EDTF), in partnership with donor organisations.

The water projects, inaugurated recently, aim to address the lack of potable water in these Atlantic Ocean-bordering island communities, which are only accessible by a two-hour boat ride from Yenagoa.

EDTF team lead, Nyananyo Tubo, said the initiative supports the government’s broader water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programme for schools.

Principals Maureen Digitemie (Sangana) and Angolo Godwin (Twon-Brass) expressed gratitude, stating the project will meet critical needs of both schools and communities.

Local leaders, including Godgift Isama-Asun of Sangana and Norman Ngeri of Twon-Brass, noted the facility would enable students to focus better on learning. The Ama Sei Humanitarian Foundation urged proper maintenance of the installations.
